Although no two communities are alike, the issues they deal with are surprisingly similar. Community Associations Institute (CAI) has been the leader in providing proven education and resources for community associations across the country for more than 30 years. Through a multidisciplinary membership, CAI brings together experts to develop solutions that help take the guesswork out of community association management, operations and governance.

Ten years ago I was elected to serve as president of the CAI New England Chapter (CAI-NE).  I really enjoyed my tenure as president for those 12 months in 1998, and as 2008 chapter president, I welcome the opportunity to be involved once again at this level.

Since 1998, CAI-NE has come a long way.  The most notable change is that we truly are the “New England” chapter as is evidenced at board meetings where volunteer leaders from Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont are in attendance.  While the CAI-NE chapter has always represented the interests of these states, for most of the chapter’s history almost all of our members and chapter volunteer leaders were from Massachusetts.  However, each year has seen more and more community associations, industry professionals and service providers from around New England joining CAI-NE and becoming more active in the chapter.  Through their volunteer leadership a record number of programs and events are now being held in all chapter states and in addition, these volunteers have made possible some monumental achievements including the authorization of a Rhode Island Legislative Action Committee, the first Maine Condo Conference & Expo and new programming opportunities in Vermont.  With the editorial contributions of volunteers, the pages of Condo Media magazine also brings news to our thousands of New England readers dedicated to state specific issues and making Condo Media  a more widely read publication.

CAI-NE will continue to meet the industry needs of our members and address the challenges of community associations throughout New England.  If you have an idea or wish to address a chapter issue or industry concern, I am always available at rbrooks@meeb.com.  I look forward to meeting many of our chapter members in the coming months.

Sincerely,

Richard Brooks, Esq.

Richard Brooks, Esq.
2008 Chapter President
